About this book
In the Days of My Youth is by Amelia B. Edwards. Chapter I, headed My Birthplace and Parentage, names Saxonholme and says the speaker doubts whether the whole of England contains another hamlet so quaint, so picturesquely irregular, so thoroughly national in all its rustic characteristics.
The Chevalier speaks of his Soirée Fantastique and says the art of legerdemain is not immoral. The narrator's father says "I never encourage peripatetic mendicity." A man named Müller tells Monsieur Choucru "It is extremely urgent." The narrator says that on reading a letter he stood for a long time stone still, incapable of realizing the extent of his misfortune.
