About this book
Agatha's Husband is a novel by Dinah Maria Mulock Craik. The title page says it is by the author of John Halifax, Gentleman, with illustrations by Walter Crane, and dates it 1875. It has thirty chapters and is inscribed to M. P. in memory of a friendship of a lifetime. Captions for the illustrations include "Arrival at Kingcombe Holm", "On Horseback" and "A Husband's Farewell".
In one scene Agatha is at the house of Mr. and Mrs. Thornycroft when a knock comes at the door. Major Harper has promised, for the fifth time, to take little Missy to the Zoological Gardens to see the bears. His younger brother arrives instead, and says he has had enough encounters with wild bears in America to be curious about captive ones. In another passage Agatha rides through a crowded street while Mrs. Dugdale calls her "Auntie Agatha". Elsewhere Agatha cries out to God in fear and understands how she loves her husband.
