About this book
Insula Sanctorum et Doctorum is the Latin title of a work by John Healy, Bishop of Clonfert, whose English subtitle is Ireland's Ancient Schools and Scholars. This is the sixth edition, dated 1912, and the preface to the fourth edition says some smaller inaccuracies were corrected.
One passage tells of young Cormac, the king's son, who comes to Tara in disguise and is present when the king gives judgment about a widow's sheep, and answers that the sheep have eaten only the fleece of the land. Another passage cites an account of Irish pilgrims who sailed up the Nile on their way to Jerusalem, told by Brother Fidelis. Another speaks of the scholar Scotus and a work of about A.D. 855.
