About this book

Jack Winters' Campmates is by Mark Overton. The contents list names chapters called A Great Streak of Luck, Jack and His Mates in Camp, and The First Night Under Canvas, among others. Jack says that the boys can hire a big khaki-colored waterproof tent belonging to Whitlatch the photographer. Long lists of needed supplies are made up and corrected, and Steve and Toby fairly map out their programme.

Three boys dressed for rough service in the woods sit on the seat of a light covered wagon moving along the valley road among the famous Pontico Hills, with Jack doing the driving just then. Jack starts creeping that way with his gun trailing along, and strange noises greet them, of which they can make nothing. Jack says to his companion, "Now, let's get away from here while the going is good," while excited men run forward toward the sprouting oil well.
