About this book

Janet's Love and Service is by Margaret M. Robertson. A scene set in the little village of Clayton shows the longest day in all the year slowly closing, with the murmur of running water alone breaking the stillness. Graeme feels the hourly missing of her mother's counsel and care, and strives to fill her mother's place to her father and them all. Arthur's home-coming could not quite chase the shadow that had fallen on Graeme since the night a year ago.

A voluble lady speaks of a harmless little person who may turn out very well if withdrawn from the influence of her stepmother. Graeme cannot forget what Mrs Gridley hinted at, though she does not believe it to be true. Mrs Snow says she doubts the foolish lassie has tired herself with riding too far.
