About this book

Kate Carnegie and Those Ministers, by Ian Maclaren, has a contents list that names, among others, the chapters "PANDEMONIUM", "PEACE" and "A HOME OF MANY GENERATIONS". Carmichael wears "a soft hat and suit of threadbare tweeds" except on Sundays and at funerals. At Muirtown Station, two retrievers worm their way through the luggage, reach Carmichael and make their wants known.

John is engaged for six weeks in the great effort, "beginning with the dusting of the pulpit and concluding with the beating of Drumsheugh's cushion." The General, in despair, tells Davidson that he has "not one word to say against Carmichael" and calls him "good-looking, and monstrous clever."
