About this book
Sandhya: Songs of Twilight is by Dhan Gopal Mukerji, author of Layla-Majnu and Rajani. The foreword says Sandhya is a slender rill that has drawn its music from the author's Bengali, which has told upon its English structure. The foreword adds that some of the poems were born without titles and defy them, and that the author refrained from forcing any on them.
The contents list poems such as Weariness, Remorse, Wanderer, Rainy Night and Evening Worship. The poem Symbolism speaks of a tongueless bell, a lute without a song, and God's dawn. The poem Weariness gives weariness as the tune of an evening melody and pain as the lute to which the speaker sings, and pictures a rower in a black bark on a copper-colored sea.
