About this book
Lee and Longstreet at High Tide is subtitled Gettysburg in the Light of the Official Records. A first-person account says it distinctly appears that Lee rejected Longstreet's plan to turn the Federal left on Cemetery Ridge, and describes Longstreet refusing Hood's appeal for permission to turn Round Top. The account quotes Longstreet always replying that General Lee's orders were to attack up the Emmitsburg road when refusing Hood's appeal for permission to turn Round Top.
A military recollection describes General Longstreet ordering General Buckner to establish a twelve-gun battery on the right and enfilade the Federal works. The recollection describes a shell fragment passing through a courier's book and striking down Colonel T. P. Manning, the chief of ordnance.
