About this book
Legends of the Gods is by E. A. Wallis Budge and is dated London, 1912. Its preface says the volumes of its series aimed to give information about the religion, magic, language and history of the ancient Egyptians, and to provide editions of the original texts.
In one passage the legend describes Khepera and the first Egyptian triad, with the gods Shu and Tefnut, whose offspring were Keb, the Earth-god, and Nut, the Sky-goddess. The same passage says the sun presumably first rose out of the watery abyss of Nu about this time. Another passage has Ra and Thoth exchanging speeches in which a place is named Ast-Nefert and a priestess is called Nebt-Heka, with a footnote saying the Great God is Osiris. The text also quotes Proverbs, chapter viii, verse 22 and following.
