About this book

H. A. Guerber's Myths of the Norsemen, From the Eddas and Sagas, is a London volume of 1909 that includes an illustration captioned Norsemen landing in Iceland. Its contents give a chapter to each of Odin, Frigga, Thor, Tyr, Bragi, Idun, Frey, Freya, Heimdall, Balder and Loki, with others on the Norns, the Valkyrs, the giants, the dwarfs and the elves, then the Sigurd Saga, the Frithiof Saga, the Twilight of the Gods and a comparison of Greek and Northern mythologies.

One passage tells how the gods gather at Asgard, decree that peace shall reign there, set up a forge and live through a Golden Age, and a section follows headed The Creation of Man. Verse quotations with named translators sit among the prose, and a passage on the Lorelei tells of a song that reaches boatmen on the river. A glossary and an index of poetical quotations are listed in the contents.
