About this book
The Book of the Epic, subtitled The World's Great Epics Told in Story, is by H. A. Guerber. An introduction speaks of coming suddenly face to face with first things, the very elemental sources beyond which no man may go. Ulysses and Diomedes steal into the Trojan camp to capture the steeds of Rhesus, and escape in safety.
The book tells of Robin Hood, who exchanges garments with a beggar and, after a quarrel with four other mendicants, has the satisfaction of routing all four. Queen Eleanor, after hearing endless merry tales about Robin Hood, becomes very anxious to meet him. A verse passage describes a red dawn that tipped the mountain-tops while birds, awaking, peered from out their nests.
