About this book
Life Immovable. First Part presents translations with an introduction and notes by the translator. The preface says that the translations were undertaken since the beginning of the great war, when communication with Greece and access to sources were always difficult and sometimes impossible.
The introduction recalls the narrator seeing Palamas outside a university building, looking towards sunlight on the marble ground and holding a cane. The narrator admits taking part in a riot following a speech against the performance of a popular translation considered too vulgar for puristic ears. The poem Imagination personifies imagination as a goddess who remakes the Parthenon where a ruin had crumbled.
