Life of Heber C. Kimball is the 1888 biography by Orson F. Whitney (1855-1931) of his grandfather Heber C. Kimball (1801-1868), the early Latter-day Saint apostle who was first counselor to Brigham Young for two decades. The book remains the standard life of one of the founding generation of the church: Kimball’s New York and Ohio conversion years, his pioneering missions to England beginning in 1837 that brought thousands of British converts into the church, the Missouri and Nauvoo persecutions, the crossing to the Salt Lake Valley, and his years at the head of the church in Utah. Whitney wrote from family papers, Kimball’s journals, and living memory, and the biography is a primary source for early Latter-day Saint history. Free PDF download available on BDeBooks.
