Elias: An Epic of the Ages is a 1904 long poem by Orson F. Whitney (1855-1931), the American writer and religious leader who served as an apostle of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1906. Whitney was the leading literary figure of his generation of Latter-day Saints, a historian, poet, and orator who called for a home literature worthy of the faith. Elias is his most ambitious work: an epic in cantos presenting the Latter-day Saint understanding of sacred history from the councils before creation through the restoration of the gospel in the latter days, with Elias as the type of the forerunner spirit working through the dispensations. The poem is a primary text of early twentieth-century Latter-day Saint literature. Free PDF download available on BDeBooks.
