Saturday Night Thoughts is a 1921 book of doctrinal and reflective essays by Orson F. Whitney (1855-1931), an apostle of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the leading literary voice of the church in his era. The book grew from a series of newspaper articles and presents Whitney’s meditations on the plan of salvation, the dispensations, the Sabbath, the latter-day work, and the philosophy of Mormonism, written in the elevated literary style he had developed across decades as poet, historian, and orator. Whitney intended the essays as both devotional reading for church members and an articulate presentation of Latter-day Saint thought to outside readers. The book remains one of the standard doctrinal works of its period. Free PDF download available on BDeBooks.
