Little Memoirs of the Nineteenth Century is a book by George Paston. The preface says its aim was to choose subjects for sketches of minor celebrities of the nineteenth century whose experiences seem to illustrate the life, more especially the literary and artistic life, of the first half of the century. The preface says two aliens are included in the group, and mentions a visitor who might be a German princeling like Pückler-Muskau or a gilded democrat like N. P. Willis.
The text says Haydon devoted a good deal of his leisure to reading classic authors, Homer, Æschylus, and Virgil, in order to tune his mind to high thoughts. The text says that in 1811 Haydon entered into his first journalistic controversy, after Leigh Hunt had attacked one of his theories in the Examiner. The text says that on leaving Dalhousie Willis spent a few days in Edinburgh, where he breakfasted with Professor Wilson, alias Christopher North.
