About this book
Logic as the Science of the Pure Concept is a translation from the Italian of Benedetto Croce by Douglas Ainslie. The front matter says Benedetto Croce's Philosophy of the Spirit, in the English translation by Douglas Ainslie, consists of 4 volumes, which can be read separately. The translator's preface says the publication of this third volume of the Philosophy of the Spirit offers a complete view of the Crocean philosophy to the English-speaking world.
The contents list includes, among others, a section titled Æstheticism, Empiricism and Mathematicism, with Positivism among its topics. In a passage headed Historical judgments of value, and normal or neutral values, the text says: We admit no other criterion of value than the concept itself. A section headed The anti-historicism of the eighteenth century and Kant says that the eighteenth century did not really know the concept of philosophy and was ignorant of that of history.
