About this book
The Philosophy of the Practical: Economic and Ethic is a book by Benedetto Croce, translated from the Italian by Douglas Ainslie. The book says that Benedetto Croce's Philosophy of the Spirit, in the English translation by Douglas Ainslie, consists of 4 volumes (which can be read separately). A note says that certain chapters only of the third part of the book were anticipated in the study entitled Reduction of the Philosophy of Law to the Philosophy of Economy.
The contents list gives Historical Notes, with topics including, among others, the problem of freedom, the doctrine of evil, and will and freedom. The text mentions the disputes that have been preserved in the Memorabilia as to the greater responsibility of him who knows more (or wills more), as compared with him who knows less (or wills less). The text says the dispute leads to the celebration of knowledge of self, or, as we should say, of knowing and possessing oneself. The text says other Catholic authors (Taparelli, for example) deplore the separation of ethos from jus, introduced (they say) by Protestant doctrines.
