About this book

Midst Granite Hills is The Story of a Dartmoor Holiday by Eglanton Thorne. The contents list chapters called A Business Transaction, Trematon-in-the-Moor, New Friends, An Unwarrantable Liberty and Forgiven. A Business Transaction begins on the second day of August, a close, oppressive day, when gowned figures might still occasionally be seen in the High Street at Cambridge.

Arthur finds it well-nigh impossible to settle to books at Trematon, but has a passion for life in the open air and takes the wild, heathery slopes, strewn with granite and crested by craggy tors, as his favourite haunts. The rector talks much of his nephew, who is plainly very dear to his uncle, and Grace listens with a curious thrill of interest, half longing and half dreading to see this remarkable young man. The rector says he is glad to meet Miss Erith and that he missed her this morning, shaking hands with her warmly.
