Millions from Waste is by Frederick Arthur Ambrose Talbot. The preface says the purpose of the volume is to indicate certain of the most obvious channels through which wealth incalculable is being permitted to escape.
The text says that of a balance of 400,000 tons of paper which went into circulation, only 200,000 tons were retrieved to be sent back to the mills to be repulped. The text says that under the most favourable pressing conditions at least 10 per cent. of the original volume of grease is left in the residue, and that with the latest process for grease extraction this content can be reduced down to 1 per cent. The text says the modern system of drying such offal is by steam heat under vacuum or reduced pressure.
