More Mittens; with The Doll's Wedding and Other Stories

A wedding among dolls gives Alice plenty to prepare for: a new dress for Anna, a search through old ribbons, and the excitement of joining Lily's party. In Aunt Fanny's collection of children's stories, ordinary play becomes a small social occasion with invitations, a reception, and a decidedly comic bridegroom. The narrator speaks directly to young readers, mixing affectionate jokes with lessons about kindness and good manners.

Elsewhere, little Peter dictates a letter to his mother that keeps returning to his wish for a penknife and skates. His repeated requests and Alice's explanations give the dialogue its humor. These scenes make the collection appealing for readers interested in family storytelling, children's speech, and the way toys turn adult customs into games. The opening letter also introduces Aunt Fanny's warm, chatty manner, setting the tone for tales that combine amusement with guidance about how children treat others.
