About this book
A year after his return from a travelling circus, Toby Tyler finds his friends in Guilford eager to stage a show of their own. Reddy Grant and Bob Atwood hope his experience will help them turn borrowed horses, homemade costumes and familiar farm animals into a circus. Their plans include a clown, a makeshift band and rabbits presented as wolves, with tickets priced at three cents. Toby's practical questions meet the boys' confident promises.
James Otis's sequel to Toby Tyler places childhood ambition beside the feelings that circus life still brings back for Toby. He remembers his lost monkey, Mr. Stubbs, and later thanks the old driver Ben for Mr. Stubbs's brother. His concern for his friend Abner adds a more serious note to the bustling circus scenes. Readers can follow the boys' inventive preparations while watching how friendship and affection shape Toby's responses to the people and animals around him.
