About this book
The book describes Xenophon's ideas to solve the problem of poverty in Athens, and so remove an excuse to mistreat the Athenian allies. The text says the country itself is made by nature to provide the amplest resources, and says it will describe the physical features of Attica. The text says the land holds an unstinted store of marble and is veined with silver.
The text calls it obvious that the public treasury is in a better position to provide funds than any private individuals. The text asks whether anyone is persuaded that, looking solely to riches and money-making, the state may find war more profitable than peace. One line says there is no man but will pray for the salvation of Athens next to that of his own fatherland.
