About this book
Operation Haystack is by Frank Herbert. A line under the title says it's hard to ferret out a gang of fanatics, that it would, obviously, be even harder to spot a genetic line of dedicated men, and that the problem Orne had was one step tougher than that. The text says the Investigation & Adjustment scout cruiser landed on Marak carrying a man the doctors had no hope of saving, and gives his name as Lewis Orne. A report in the text says the militant core on the Planet Heleb has been eliminated, and names as the major indications a ruling caste restricted to women.
Orne goes back to his room to change for dinner and asks himself, Am I falling in love with this woman? Orne tells a listener that an hour after this conspiracy became known, they wouldn't be in a position to jail anyone.
