About this book

Our Presidents and How We Make Them by A. K. McClure is illustrated, and its contents list the presidential contests one by one, among them The Washington Elections of 1789 to 1792, The Adams-Jefferson Contest of 1796 and The Buchanan-Frémont-Fillmore Contest.

In one passage the anti-Masonic national convention meets in Philadelphia in 1830 with 96 delegates, Francis Granger presiding. Another passage records that William Wirt was nominated for President at a Baltimore convention, and that the National Republicans met there on December 12, 1831, with 157 delegates and nominated Henry Clay for President and John Sergeant for Vice-President. The platform of the Independent party calls for repeal of the Specie-Resumption act of January 14, 1875.
