About this book
Paint Technology and Tests is by Henry A. Gardner, listed as Assistant Director of The Institute of Industrial Research, Washington, D. C. The preface says that a few years ago the producer and consumer of paints possessed comparatively little knowledge of the relative durability of various pigments and oils. A section headed Menhaden Oil says that of all the marine-animal oils, such as seal, herring, sardine, whale, and menhaden, the latter is the most valuable.
A passage on color tests says that some of the tests included the priming of boards with white lead, zinc oxide, sublimed white lead, lithopone, and other single pigment paints. A chapter on The Sanitary Value of Wall Paints says the proper decoration of the interior of dwellings and public buildings has become of even greater importance than the protection and decoration of exteriors.
