About this book
This is Volume I of Wolfram von Eschenbach's Parzival, a knightly epic, in Jessie L. Weston's English translation, covering Books I to IX. It is a reprint of the 1894 London edition and is dedicated to the memory of Richard Wagner. The books are titled Gamuret, Herzeleide, Gurnemanz, Kondwiramur, Anfortas, Arthur, Obilot, Antikonie and Trevrezent, and an introduction on the poem and its writer comes with appendices and notes.
In the verse, Gamuret takes service with the Baruch of Bagdad and takes as his badge an anchor of white ermine, worked on green riding gear. In another passage Gawain tells the Waleis that his vengeance was rough, since he felled a seneschal in a joust and the man's right arm and left leg were broken. A later passage of commentary compares an incident of three colours and a slain wild goose with other tales in which a calf is slain instead.
