About this book

Patty’s Friends is a book by Carolyn Wells whose contents list chapters titled An Afternoon Tea, Riddles and Games, The White Lady and A Floral Offering. At an afternoon tea, Tom triumphantly bears a covered silver dish and announces Muffins! in a jubilant voice, and the narration says England and America seemed at one in showing an appreciative appetite for them.

Tom Meredith is a boy nearly six feet tall with a round, cherubic face and soft, curly hair, wearing a white dress of simple “Mother Hubbard” cut, and Patty at once calls him Baby Belle. Patty replies that she would love to stay but her own people are writing her very urgently to join them in Switzerland, and a speaker says they are going to get up a croquet club and want her to be a member.
