About this book
Barrie's most famous creation began on the stage and reached its final form in this 1911 novel, which fixed Peter Pan in the imagination for good. Peter, the boy who refuses to grow up, flies through a nursery window and carries Wendy Darling and her brothers off to Neverland, a place of mermaids, fairies, Lost Boys, and the ticking, hook-handed pirate who hunts them. Beneath the adventure runs a stranger, sadder current about childhood, memory, and the cost of never letting go. Tinker Bell, Captain Hook, and the crocodile have all outlived the page to become part of common speech. It remains a cornerstone of children's literature.
