About this book
Petty Troubles of Married Life, First Part is a book by Honoré de Balzac, with a preface in which every one will find his own impressions of marriage. The preface has a friend speaking of a young woman: good family, well bred, pretty, and three hundred thousand in her own right. The preface also mentions a delicate pecuniary question to be discussed by the two families.
One scene gives a wife, now the mother-in-law of Adolphe, who also is an expectant mother, while a friend says you are trying to increase the population again. In a different scene the text asks how to find the longitude in this sea, which it calls the matrimonial ocean, and tells the reader he has this advantage over the mariner, who has but one method of calculating his position. A further scene has Madame Foullepointe, a pretty brunette, a genuine Parisian, sitting down upon the sofa.
