About this book
Plashers Mead is by Compton MacKenzie, and its pages also carry the words Guy and Pauline. The contents list, among others, sections headed Autumn, Winter, Spring and Summer, each with months named under it, and an Epigraph with the names Guy and Pauline.
Under the heading Autumn September, the slow train puffs away into the unadventurous country, and the bees buzzing round the wine-dark dahlias along the platform are once again audible. Guy Hazlewood flings a last farewell over his shoulder to a parting friend. Guy, walking through the mist of a wide meadow, wishes he could ever say in verse a little of the magic this autumnal night was shedding upon his fancy, and says aloud that he is not going to be hurried. Guy announces his good news, and Margaret offers him her slim hand and says she thinks he deserves it, for "you've both been so sweet to me all this fortnight."
