About this book
Put Yourself in His Place is credited to Charles Reade. The book carries a motto credited to Horace that speaks of framing a work of fiction upon notorious fact. A character named Henry uses a little saw he had invented to turn four feet of board into open-work, and Grace is delighted.
Henry says “Bother my friend Applethwaite” and goes off, and both ladies smile. Mr. Mountain, the contractor, tells Mr. Tucker that the sluice-pipes are too slow and that without relief to the dam there will be a blow-up in half an hour. Mr. Tucker says that no precaution has been neglected in building this dam.
