About this book

Representative Plays by American Dramatists 1856-1911 is edited, with an introduction to each play, by Montrose J. Moses. The contents list names plays such as Rip Van Winkle by Charles Burke, Francesca da Rimini by George Henry Boker and Shenandoah by Bronson Howard, among others.

The introduction says the text of The New York Idea by Mr. Langdon Mitchell has been completely revised by the author as to stage directions. The introduction says that because of the easy accessibility of Dion Boucicault's The Octoroon; or, Life in Louisiana, it was thought best to omit that playwright. A bibliography section under the name Clyde Fitch lists, among others, Archie Bell's The Clyde Fitch I Knew. A biographical note headed Belasco gives a birth in San Francisco, Cal., on July 25, 1853.
