About this book
Reproduction of Copyrighted Works by Educators and Librarians is credited to Library of Congress. Copyright Office. The text says many educators and librarians ask about the fair use and photocopying provisions of the copyright law, and that the Copyright Office cannot give legal advice or offer opinions on what is permitted or prohibited. The text says reproduction can take either of two forms: the making of copies, by photocopying, and the making of phonorecords, by duplicating sound recordings.
The text says the documentary materials in this booklet are reprints or excerpts from six sources, among them The Copyright Act of October 19, 1976. The text says some provisions do not extend to cases where the library or archives, or its employee, engages in the systematic reproduction or distribution of single or multiple copies or phonorecords of material described in subsection (d). The text says the innocent infringer provision of section 504(c)(2) has been the subject of extensive discussion, and describes an exception that would allow reduction of minimum statutory damages to $100.
