Lauren Oliver closes the Delirium trilogy with Requiem, returning to the alternating point of view she used in Pandemonium. Lena’s chapters track the resistance moving toward open conflict, while Hana’s chapters back in the cured city show what life looks like for the people who chose, or were forced into, the procedure.
The ending of the trilogy was controversial when it came out. Some readers felt the resolution wasn’t enough resolution. Oliver has spoken about her reasons for the choice.
The romantic triangle from book two reaches its conclusion. The political situation reaches a turning point but not a clean one.
Readers who have read the first two books should finish the trilogy here, even if the ending isn’t what they hoped for. New readers should start with Delirium. The trilogy as a whole is one of the strongest of the early 2010s YA dystopian wave alongside Hunger Games and Divergent.
