About this book
Alan Tremaine knows that Mars receives its water through a space-warp from Venus, and that cutting the lifeline would mean war and mankind's destruction. Two hundred thousand outworld citizens, the entire population of Syrtis, huddle together in the cold and watch the blue and gold banner of the Outworld Federation being raised. General Olmstead orders Martian units to prepare for war, proclaims martial law, and terminates civilian authority.
The account places a ship seventy five thousand miles out from Mars, heading toward Earth, with its speed still increasing. Alan is hurled away and tumbles across rocks as the moon tank bursts briefly into flame.
