About this book
Signora Fantastici (A Dramatic Proverb) is by Madame de Staël, 1811. The list of characters names, among others, Mr. De Kriegschenmahl, a former Swiss officer, his wife Mrs. De Kriegschenmahl, Signora Fantastici and her daughter Zepherina. Madame de Kriegschenmahl asks her husband to stop smoking that pipe, saying the smoke soils her white dress.
Madame de Kriegschenmahl says that for twenty-five years she and her husband have made a party of whist every night, and that she would like to try the French game Reversi. Zepherina asks Rodolphe whether he would like to be a guard at the back of the stage, and suggests that perhaps he would simply play the bear in The Hunters and the Milkmaid. Mr. De Kriegschenmahl is asked whether he would play a role in the play they want to perform, and Signora Fantastici says there will be a siege of a town in it.
