About this book
The Spirit of Contradiction, by Dufresny, lists among its characters Mr. Townly, Mrs. Townly, Lucas the gardener, Angelica, Edward Richly and Mr. Nelson. A character named Lucas, a gardener, says he does not like being gardener here and that "A woman in a garden causes more damage than a million hedgehogs." A character named Townly says he loves his wife, who has no other pleasure than to do exactly the opposite of what he wants, so he provides her with that small satisfaction.
Townly says "Let's discuss a little how we are going to manage my wife." Lucas says Mr. Nelson promised him a hundred pounds, and Edward replies "You rogue. Why didn't you ask for two hundred from me?"
