About this book
Sketch of the History of the Knights Templars is by James Burnes and is marked as a Second Edition, illustrated with plates. The dedication gives Prince Augustus Frederick, Duke of Sussex, Earl of Inverness, Grand Prior of England, as the person to whom the following pages are dedicated. The text says that when, in 1099, Jerusalem was invested by the Crusaders, the Hospital of St. John was presided over by Gerhard, a native of Provence, a man of exemplary piety.
The text says that when the city was taken, the sick and wounded of the Crusaders received all due care and attention from Gerhard and his monks. A decree in the text says Nous avons décrété et décrétons ce qui suit, and its Article Premier says the Convent Général de l'Ordre du Temple is convoked for the dix Novembre, 1838.
