About this book

Some Rambling Notes of an Idle Excursion is by Mark Twain, who says all the journeyings he had ever done had been purely in the way of business. The pleasant May weather suggests a trip for pure recreation, with the bread-and-butter element left out. The Reverend says he will go too, a good man, one of the best of men, although a clergyman.

The writer says that by eleven at night they were in New Haven and on board the New York boat. Two men called John and William talk over a rough draft of the ground, and one asks which lot the other would rather be buried in. The writer says they had a soup that seemed to taste like the hereafter but proved to be only pepper of a particularly vivacious kind, and an iron-clad chicken that was deliciously cooked, but not in the right way.
