About this book

Sonnets and Verse, by H. Belloc, is a book of verse that was first published in 1923. The dedication to John Swinnerton Phillimore speaks of two people who, when little tiny boys, took a most impertinent delight in foolish, painted and misshapen toys. The contents list gives a first section of sonnets, headed I. SONNETS, with Lift up your Hearts in Gumber, laugh the Weald as its first entry.

A sonnet in the book says "Here am I homeward from my wandering, Here am I homeward and my heart is healed." A piece called The Moon's Funeral has its speaker say that the Moon is dead and that the speaker saw her die. One piece describes fishermen who fish in the River of Seine and haul the long nets in.
