About this book

Sonnets from the Crimea is by Adam Mickiewicz, translated by Edna Worthley Underwood. The contents list names The Ackerman Steppe, Becalmed and Baktschi Serai by Night, among others.

The text says Mickiewicz was born in Novogrodek in Lithuania and that he went to a government school in Minsk, and later attended the University of Vilna. One poem has a speaker going across sea-meadows measureless, with a wagon sinking under grass so tall. Another poem begins with the words The flag is listless, limp. It dances not. A poem in the text has a speaker who loves to lean and look on waves that battling beat and break with might on Juda's Cliff.
