About this book
David Corriston's first sight of the great station above Earth inspires wonder, but danger soon overtakes the spectacle. A lieutenant traveling toward this artificial moon, he becomes caught up in a death aboard his ship and the disappearance of Helen Ramsey. The opening places him in a dark storage compartment, struggling against an armed opponent among steel girders. Frank Belknap Long builds his science fiction novel around the uneasy gap between impressive machinery and the people who control it.
Disguises and uncertain loyalties give the space setting the tension of a crime story. Corriston bargains with masked officers, offering to testify about their protection of Helen in exchange for a chance to speak with her. Their reunion brings a quieter personal note to the threats surrounding the station. Readers can expect physical danger, concealed identities and a growing attachment tested by the struggle for control.
