About this book
Stories from the Greek Tragedians presents stories in which, according to the preface, compression and omission have been freely used. The preface says the author has added a description of single combat between Eteocles and Polynices to the Story of the Seven Chiefs against Thebes. A king orders food for a guest and closed doors between chambers and palace so that the guest will not hear mourners while eating.
Pheres comes to mourn with his son, the King, accompanied by servants carrying robes, crowns and other adornments to honour the dead. A prince is about to give back a bow when Ulysses runs forward and cries that he should stop.
