About this book
Stray Leaves from Strange Literature; And, Fantastics and Other Fancies is a volume by Lafcadio Hearn. The contents list names, among others, The Book of Thoth, The Fountain Maiden and The Bird Wife. The contents list has headings for Tales from Indian and Buddhist Literature and Runes from the Kalewala, among others.
A note thanks Dr. A. K. Coomaraswamy, of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, for corrections in the spelling of proper names in the Tales from India and Buddhist Literature included in this volume. A character named Thoutboui says, "Not lightly is my love to be bought with gifts." A passage about Hiouen-thsang says the Khan received the pilgrim as a son, and that the fame of Hiouen-thsang as a teacher of the Law had reached into the heart of Asia.
