About this book
Sunday Under Three Heads is by Charles Dickens and carries a dedication to the Right Reverend the Bishop of London. The dedication tells the Bishop of London that he was among the first, some years ago, to expatiate on the vicious addiction of the lower classes of society to Sunday excursions.
The text says there is a great deal of very unnecessary cant about the over-dressing of the common people. The text discusses the clauses of a bill that relate to travelling on Sunday, and says penalties of ten, twenty, and thirty pounds are mercilessly imposed upon coach proprietors who shall run their coaches on the Sabbath. The text voices a wish to see some large field, or open piece of ground, in every outskirt of London, exhibiting each Sunday evening on a larger scale the scene of the little country meadow.
