About this book

The American Baron is a novel by James De Mille. The title page describes De Mille as the author of "The Dodge Club," "The Cryptogram," "Cord and Creese," and more. Minnie moves lightly over the snow as a stranger leads her toward a sled.

Minnie treats the Baron with the utmost complaisance; Hawbury is surprised, Mrs. Willoughby and Lady Dalrymple are disgusted, and the Baron is delighted. The Baron settles on a sofa in a reception-room to wait patiently for Minnie to come down, and Minnie does not come. Dacres cries that a man is ten times stronger than he is, a perfect elephant in strength, who dashed past him up the hill.
