About this book
The April Baby's Book of Tunes comes with the story of how they came to be written, and is illustrated by Kate Greenaway. The story says April, May, and June knitted mittens for their mother at Christmas, at Easter and for her birthday. A scene is set in the week before Easter, when the weather turned suddenly very cold after having been quite like spring for a long while. The text describes German Easters as very nice things, something like Christmas, with the presents hidden out in the garden.
A female character mutters Doch, doch, Du musst begossen werden, which the text gives as Yes, yes, thou must be watered. The audience on the sofa is delighted, and the performance has to be given several times over.
