About this book
Bart Stirling's Road to Success carries the subtitle "Or, The Young Express Agent". One scene shows a man "about forty years old, very shabby and threadbare in his attire" who cries "I'll live there till I find what I came to Pleasantville to find!" Bart says, "You can't sleep forever in empty freight cars, picking up scraps to live on, you know."
In another scene Bart greets Mrs. Wacker and asks to see Mr. Wacker, and the woman who answers says "he hasn't been home all night". A further scene has Mr. Martin glance over fifteen bills of one thousand dollar denomination each and say he takes the money "because it is delivered by you" but "shall return it to Dunn & Son to-morrow".
