About this book
The list headed Works of Newell Dwight Hillis gives The Battle of Principles as A Study of the Heroism and Eloquence of the Anti-Slavery Conflict. One passage says that between 1620 and 1770 three million slaves were driven in gangs down to the African seacoast, and transported to the colonies. The text says the Portuguese became the explorers of the interior, the advance agents of the traffic, and the Spaniards maintained the slave stations on the coast.
One passage says that Douglas's Kansas-Nebraska Bill brought on an era of civil war in Kansas. The text says that Abraham Lincoln entered upon the scene and challenged Douglas to a debate, in the summer of 1858. The text places the sentence Once more the Father of Waters goes unvexed to the sea at the time when Vicksburg fell.
